Meet the Founder
My love for colour, fabric and thread began when I was a little girl. I was always drawn to needlework and would happily spend my holidays with a basket of fabric, threads and sewing essentials by my side. Dressing up was another joy, and over time, these two loves naturally came together.
After completing my post-graduation, I felt a strong desire to study design and take my passion further. I learnt through courses at home and from several teachers, constantly exploring new techniques and refining my skills. What began as a personal passion slowly grew into something much larger.
That journey gave birth to SVASA.
What started at home has, over the years, grown into a design house and a large, closely connected family, brought together by a shared love for craftsmanship, creativity and beautiful clothing.
Breathing Life into Weaves
For over twenty-five years, “Breathing Life into Weaves” has been at the heart of SVASA.
What began as a hobby rooted in a love for embroidery has evolved into an established women's design house known for its distinctive craftsmanship and timeless design. Founded in Chennai in 1997, SVASA initially focused on traditional Indian embroidery for women's clothing. Over the years, the brand has evolved while staying true to its love for Indian textiles, needlecraft and detail and has found a place among discerning, quality-conscious retailers, including Kalpa Druma, Fabindia, Shilpi, Avishia and others across Indian cities.
Today, SVASA is particularly recognised for its Classic and Signature collections of designer blouses-pieces that bring together traditional craftsmanship, thoughtful design and contemporary sensibility.
Our journey has also taken us beyond blouses. SVASA creates a carefully considered range of women's indulgence wear and accessories, including traditional Indian handbags, jewellery, handloom sarees and Indo-western clothing, alongside our signature designer blouses.
With a presence across Indian cities and a growing global audience, SVASA continues to build on its reputation for creative design, quality and distinctive craftsmanship.
Beyond Craft, Towards Change
Craft with a Conscience
At SVASA, craftsmanship is also about people.
We have consciously created opportunities for differently abled individuals to participate in our production processes and have supported the training of people from less privileged backgrounds in traditional embroidery and needlecraft.
For us, the value of a handcrafted piece extends beyond the finished garment. It lies in the hands that create it, the skills that are passed on, and the confidence and independence that meaningful work can bring.
