The art of drawing with a pen on silk using painting techniques is the beauty of this silk Kalamkari. The base is ochre with painted flowers in pale pink and blue . The sleeves were embroidered in deep rust, blue and olive green, with traditional motifs from the village tribes. The gold borders line the mandarin collar and sleeve edges. The motifs are mostly inspired by nature and also ancient folk art and traditions. The dyes used are naturally extracted from various roots, leaves and barks…seeped with buffalo milk and “Myrobalan”. As we work with this fabric and stud it with mirrors to highlight the motifs at the back, we realize we have now grown to love the smell of buffalo milk on the natural kalamkari fabric. SILK AND FLOWERS is for a subtle and quiet evening filled with style.

Black linen fabric is always a must in any designer's work studio. Every centimetre of black fabric will somehow find its place into most ensembles. This onyx black linen has been embroidered with an all over design in front with leaves and creepers using a vanilla white cotton thread to give it a Matt finish. A black with white embroidered blouse can be matched with most saree colors including the transparent silks from Maheswar for example. The back is cut deep in a leaf shaped drop using black and white striped khadi. Another floral paisely motif on the sleeves in white. Our girl has worn a simple saree in checks . We have also matched it for occasion wear with a beautiful tussar woven from the looms of Gopalpur in Odisha. It's called the "Phoda Khumba" which is similar to the "Korvai" . To create the look and weave it's Tussar on the warp and silk on the weft. Drape on ladies BLACK ONYX needs no occasion.

The solid ultramarine blue fabric was the chosen one for our “REVIVAL PROJECT” from the 1990’s. This was one of the first few designs we created at Svasa in 1998…..with the 2 girls we had trained in-house for kutch embroidery. Kutch work is a traditional type of embroidery made in a geometric pattern using two steps one is a base made of cross stitches and the second is the interlacing technique where the threads are woven into the boxes without piercing the fabrics except at the end. The deep Ultramarine mercerized cotton which is a purely handwoven one was cut and stitched with a self coloured yoke in front . The cuts were highlighted in a sharp lime green color. A close neck in front and a drop neck at the back. Canary yellow threads were used to embroider the kutch border along the entire cut all through the back, neck and the front. The LIME GREEN transparent Maheshwari saree was our best choice to drape with this bold blouse. A sharp summer combination for all occasions and for those women who love bold contrasts.
